WHY BUY ME?
This is a wonderful and rare complete folio of 24 satirical lithographs of Soviet propaganda. Each one tells its own story but taking them as a complete set the message is one of an endemic alcohol problem, especially with men, men’s laziness versus women’s hard work and the rise of Western influence; gay relationships and changing fashion etc.
The lynchpin of the folio (and the cover image) is the lady with attitude flanked by her mother to one side and her father to the other. The message is that there are two routes or choices in life. Work hard and you will end up successful or be lazy and you won’t.
These images were obviously controversial when they were produced and many were subsequently destroyed hence their rarity today.
