Why Buy the Holmegaard Carnaby Red Bulge Vase?
Our Holmegaard Carnaby Red Bulge Vase is a fine example from the renowned producer of Scandinavian art glass.
Designed by Per Lütken in 1968, Holmegaard Carnaby glass was hugely successful at the time. The Holmegaard Carnaby range is distinguished by bold shapes and bright colours in cased glass. Produced in about 16 shapes and in varying colours, some Holmegaard Carnaby glass is rarer than others. For example, the transparent ruby red glass from 1968, disappears from 1969. Established in 1825, the Holmegaard Glassworks in Denmark began its history as a bottle producer. Within a decade it moved to table-glass. While its first century was lacklustre, its fortunes were transformed by the designs of Jacob E. Bang (1899-1965), Per Lütken (1916-98), and Bang’s son, Michael (1944-2002).
Per Lütken worked at Holmegaard from 1942 until his death in 1998, and his work resulted in some of the company’s most well-respected pieces. Indeed, his designs remain highly rated. Beautifully tactile with a wonderful design, Carnaby glass never dates and original examples are a shrewd investment. Indeed, Holemgaard’s huge success in the mid-century encouraged many imitations. So, before purchasing, be sure consult a glass identification guide or work with a trusted vendor.
