The iconic Mrs Fox logo was taken from the title page of a folio of 24 Russian cartoon prints published in the 1970s. The folio was heavily researched but another set has never been discovered and the Mrs Fox logo remained a one off until…..
Venice
A first visit to this historic city to take in its sights and soak up the artwork in the world famous La Biennale di Venezia, took Mrs Fox through a warren of side streets flanked by dark and mysterious shops. Dusty windows, dim lights, custom-less, timeless and staffed by indifferent, bespectacled owners immersed and huddled over their desks. Think Carlos Ruiz Zafón and his Spanish bookstores.
And there it was. Completely unexpected. At the top of a foggy window. Another Mrs Fox!
What were the chances?
She had to go in.
As soon as she made her enquiry, the female proprietor exclaimed frantically, pumping a hand shake and exclaiming a welcome. It seems that Mrs Fox travels first class on the web and that the owner had come across her store when undertaking her own research. She knew all about Mrs Fox.
The proprietor had an incomplete folio of 22, having purchased them from a client who had in turn purchased them from the La Biennale di Venezia in the mid 1970s. An exchange of information promptly ensued and a bond between two enthusiasts began to develop. They are sure to stay in touch.
The framed set of this folio is for sale on our website here
We hope to be able to provide more details about it as our research and story continue.
Oh and Venice was a delight.
Until the next time….
